Storm Damage

Loveland Storm Roof Inspection Checklist for Tree-Lined Homes

Shamrock

Loveland homes have a specific storm problem: trees. Mature neighborhoods, wooded lots, and winding roads make the area beautiful, but wind and heavy rain can turn branches, leaves, and debris into roof problems quickly.

After a strong storm, the roof may not have obvious damage from the ground. That does not mean everything is fine.

Start with trees and debris

Walk the property after the storm passes and it is safe outside. Look for broken branches on the roof, piles of leaves in valleys, limbs touching shingles, and debris around gutters.

Even a branch that did not puncture the roof can scrape granules, crack a shingle, bend flashing, or loosen ridge cap. If a limb hit hard enough to leave marks on siding, gutters, or a deck, the roof should be checked too.

Check gutters and valleys

Loveland and Symmes Township homes often have roof valleys that collect leaves. During heavy rain, clogged valleys can push water sideways under shingles. Clogged gutters can overflow behind fascia and make it look like a roof leak.

From the ground, look for water marks, sagging gutters, loose downspouts, and granules collecting at downspout exits. Granules after a major storm can mean shingles took a beating.

Look inside before the stain spreads

Check ceilings, attic decking, insulation, and walls near chimneys or exterior corners. A small stain after a storm is not something to watch for a few months. It is a sign water already found a path in.

If there is active leaking, read our roof leak after heavy rain guide and protect the interior first.

Hail and wind signs

Hail damage may show up on gutters, AC fins, screens, and siding before shingles. Wind damage may show up as lifted tabs, missing shingles, or ridge cap movement. Both can be hard to see from the driveway.

A good inspection checks the roof, soft metals, attic, and interior together. It should also separate storm damage from normal age.

When to document for insurance

If the storm caused visible damage, take photos before cleanup. Get wide shots, close-ups, and the date. Save receipts for reasonable temporary repairs. If a contractor inspects the roof, ask for photo documentation.
