West Chester Hail Roof Inspection: What to Check First

West Chester homeowners usually do not know they have hail damage until someone gets on the roof. From the street, most asphalt shingles look normal after a hailstorm. The clearer evidence is often lower: gutters, downspouts, AC fins, screens, and siding.

Check soft metals first

Hail dents soft metal more obviously than shingles. Walk the property and look at:

• Aluminum gutters and gutter lips
• Downspouts on the storm-facing side
• Metal roof vents
• Flashing around chimneys and walls
• AC condenser fins
• Mailboxes, grill lids, and metal patio furniture

If you see round dents across several items, the roof deserves a closer look. Hail that dented metal may have knocked protective granules off shingles.

What roof hail damage looks like

On asphalt shingles, possible hail hits often show up as dark circular marks where granules were knocked loose. Those marks are clues, not proof. Granule loss alone does not mean the shingle is damaged. A trained inspector checks whether the mat underneath is fractured or punctured, and looks at random distribution, slope direction, and damage density.
